Matson Hill - Trail Building Day #2

Registration is closed for this event

Date: November 21st, 2015 - 9am - 1pm

Location: Matson Hill

What: The 2nd Fall 2015 Matson Hill Trail Build Day.

Where: The Matson Hill Park trail head.

(The most straightforward way) from the Highway 40/94 interchange: Take Highway 94 South approximately 13 miles. Go past Defiance to Matson, turn right and follow Matson Hill Rd to the top of the hill. Turn right onto Matson Road (now paved) and go ~ .5 mile to the trailhead, which will be on your left.  Or, click here for park location.

Why: We are going to build a nice new reroute around a section that is unsustainable. If enough folks show up we can get'er done. It is conveniently close to the trail head.

Got Q's?: Please read the link to pilznr's "What to expect at a Trail Build Day" - http://forum.gorctrails.com/index.php/topic/2265-what-to-expect-at-a-trail-building-day/.

GORC/SCCP's will provide on site instruction, tools, gloves, safety glasses, and a post event lunch*.

Weather ...

GORC and SCCP's staff will be out on the trails prepping for the weekend in the following days, and will keep an eye on the forecast as well.  The above link about "What to expect at a Trail Build Day" goes into more detail, but the following themes are what we use when deciding to cancel an event;

  • can the volunteers safely get to the site?  (Flooding, ice/snow being the main concerns),
  • will they be safe while working?  (Concerns about lightning, or being able to stand/travel along the trail without risk of injury due to slick conditions),
  • will they be able to accomplish the intended job?  (Some trails are composed of dirt that sticks to EVERYTHING, and are impossible to work in).

Should we need to cancel, we will communicate that decision via SCCP's Trail Hotline:

636-707-0011.

We may be able to post an announcement on the GORC Twitter page, or this forum thread, but please DO NOT COUNT ON THE INFO SHOWING UP IN EITHER LOCATION.  The Trail Hotline is the O-FISH-UL method of notifying people about changes in the SCCP's Program.

If there is no message, the event is still on.  We will continue to update this thread as needed, and/or to answer any workday related questions.

What to bring: Gloves, Sturdy shoes, eye protection, and something to drink on the trail.

There may be a group ride afterwards - weather permitting, so bring your bike if you like.
