Ben, my favorite Eagle Scout, put together a project to complete a section of the Declue Extension. We met at 9 today and did just that. We benched the upper section of the Extension linking what was done on October 3rd. The only thing left to do is build the switchbacks. It's totally able to be ridden as is though. This new piece is totally cool with some good looking flow.
Here's my hard working crew:
Here's a taste of what they built. These guys (and gal) were perfectionists:
The existing trail was pretty solid. I'd say it will be in good shape tomorrow for the most part.
I also got to play with our new toy...a TU-17 Griphoist...we pulled out a couple nice size trees with it.
Bryan Adams, GORC President Why should I change my name, he's the one that sucks!
Thanks for getting the pics up. Greensfelder was pretty good today. Dogwood and Declue only had a few little area with mud but were great overall. The new section is a great downhill going from the Green Rock to the switchback, just needs some more riders to pack it down.
Everything was great last night (10/20) I'd rate it 8/10
What shocked me was the smoothness of the "mature" trail surfaces on both Dogwood and Declue. After the massive rains last week, followed (as usual) by a dry weekend, that usually means lots of hooves in mud. But, it wasn't at all that way.
The new Declue extension trails are going to be awesome. Thank You Bryan and the volunteers! You can already ride all the way from old Declue to Greenrock on bench-cut.
The equestrians have been out there compacting the new trail, but it is not in bad shape at all. More tires means better trails.
